Get ready, movie buffs! Ana de Armas is reportedly in the final stages of joining the cast of Reenactment, alongside the already confirmed Benicio Del Toro. This news has the potential to set the industry abuzz!
Just a couple of weeks ago, whispers began circulating that Benicio Del Toro would be reuniting with Grant Singer, the director who previously worked with him on Netflix's Reptile, for a new project titled Reenactment. Cameron Diaz is also in talks to co-star in the film. While the plot details remain shrouded in mystery, anticipation is building, and production is expected to begin soon.
Now, according to reports, Ana de Armas is on the verge of signing on. The film is being produced by Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, and Thad Luckinbill of Black Label, along with Patrick Wachsberger of 193 (a company under the Legendary brand). Rachel Smith of Black Label, Ashley Stern of 193, and Rick Yorn and Scott Greenberg of LBI are set to executive produce. Wachsberger’s 193 will also handle international sales.
Reptile, the crime thriller that previously united Del Toro and Singer, also starred Alicia Silverstone, Justin Timberlake, and Eric Bogosian. The film enjoyed a successful run, topping Netflix's Top 10 chart for several weeks. Reptile garnered positive reviews, with many praising its darkly humorous tone and Del Toro's outstanding performance.
Singer has spoken about his influences, citing Sidney Lumet as a major inspiration, drawing comparisons to Serpico rather than a film by David Fincher. Singer also mentions classic Hollywood movies like Charles Laughton’s Night of the Hunter and the Richard Brooks version of In Cold Blood as significant influences.
Singer also expressed his gratitude for Del Toro's involvement, highlighting the actor's ability to bring a unique, humorous, and three-dimensional approach to the role of a detective navigating dark situations. Singer admitted that they had Del Toro in mind from the beginning, but it felt like a 'far-out dream' to actually get him on board.
